Excerpt from Chapter One
The Break-Up
I pulled into the parking lot, too pissed off to realize how creepy the flickering neon lights of the gas station looked in the dead of night. I was too focused on what the best break-up snack would be but leaned towards a mix of Doritos, Funyuns and Twizzlers. The parking lot was empty aside from one other car which probably belonged to the poor clerk assigned to the night shift. I shifted the car into park and sighed.
People broke up all the time. God knows I’d been through my own share of them in the past but never quite like this. Just a few hours ago, he’d been popping us popcorn in the kitchen while I snuggled under a blanket on the couch ready for a Netflix date night. He’d left his phone on the couch and I’d glanced over when it buzzed next to me.
A text from Becca.
He’d talked about his co-worker Becca before and I knew they worked on the same collections team at the credit card company. What I didn’t know was what she looked like. But when I glanced at the text, I suddenly knew what part of her looked like. It was a close-up picture of between her legs, the area completely waxed, with her finger inserted all the way inside herself. A single line of text was underneath.
Wish this was your dick, baby.
I was no credit card expert but this did not seem work related. He’d shrugged when I held the phone up to his face. Didn’t even have the nerve to look ashamed or embarrassed. It was the same shrug I’d seen when he took the last two donuts during our brunch the past weekend. I get that someone has to take the last donut but who takes the last two when there are only two people there?
So yeah, in hindsight, there’d been signs.
